Today Jaeger LeCoultre is a big name and is said to be one of the most inventive of companies in the industry of watch making. In 1903, in Paris, Edmond Jaeger came up with a design of an ultra-thin caliber challenging the Swiss watchmakers to match them. Antoine's grandson, Jacques-David LeCoultre, accepted the challenge and won. They came together with the LeCoultres bringing in their outstanding watch making craft skills and Jaeger, who was a great designer contributing a unique style to their combined productions. And so the Jaeger LeCoultre brand was born in 1937 giving us great horological wonders. Jaeger LeCoultre watches were soon available in mens watches and ladies watches as well. On their own as well as together these two men built relationships with some of the most famous manufacturers of luxury watches. For at least thirty years starting from 1902, LeCoultre & Cie manufactured watches for Patek Phillipe of Geneva. And prior to Jaeger and LeCoultre working together, Jaeger already had the well known designer Cartier as one of his clients. Later in 1907 a contract was signed in which it was decided that Jaeger along with LeCoultre as well as Cie would wholly produce all of Cartier's creations. In 1907 a new record was set by the Jaeger-LeCoultre Caliber 145 for being the thinnest movement. But as the years have gone by, there have been plenty of improvements, distinctions as well as achievements which has had a great influence on the way the Jaeger LeCoultre watches have evolved and been produced. Jaeger LeCoultre have filed more than two hundred patents and have developed over a thousand different kinds of calibers.
