EXTERNAL PILES OR HEMORRHOIDS Treating external piles at home is possible and there are many natural ways to address the problem. The condition of varicosity or swelling and inflammation of veins in the rectum and anus is commonly referred to in the U.K. as piles. It is also known as haemorrhoids or hemorrhoids in the United States. The two most common types are external piles and internal piles. External piles occur outside at the lateral end of the anal canal, on the anal verge. They are sometimes painful, and can be accompanied by swelling and irritation. Itching, due to skin irritation, is considered a common symptom of external piles. The piles become known as thrombosed haemorrhoids if the vein ruptures and a blood clot develops. Internal piles occur inside the rectum. They are usually not painful, and most people are not even aware that they have them. Internal piles may bleed when irritated. Causes of Piles: Constipation is a factor and an improved diet consisting of fruit, vegetable and fibre is essential Chronic diarrhoea can also in some instances lead to the onset of piles Straining during bowel movements Postponing bowel movements. Try to get into regular bathroom habits Poor bathroom habits; sitting for unusually long periods of time, e.g. reading on the toilet or excessive cleaning attempts. Piles can present during pregnancy Dehydration: drink plenty of water throughout the day to ensure the stools do not become hard. Too much pressure on the rectal veins due to poor posture or muscle tone. Obesity and a sedentary lifestyle may cause hemorrhoids. Look to improve your posture and get more exercise! As in all such medical cases, if the condition persists or you are concerned about the piles then consult your Doctor. Piles can occur in both sexes and are pretty common after the age of 40. Most forms of external piles can easily be treated at home. For more information on the simple and natural home treatment for external piles from Mike Matthews go to: http://www.externalpiles.com
