People love candy, and when you own a dollar store you will discover your shoppers are no different. Whether it is candy bars, bagged candy, candy pops and treats, or individually wrapped candy, this is one type of dollar store merchandise that sells. You face three challenges with candy. The first challenge for you is to know the candy items most in demand by your shoppers. Your next challenge is to keep your store well-stocked with a good assortment of those hot selling candy items. Your final challenge is to locate the best wholesale prices to maximize profits. However once these challenges are met, you need a strategy to maximize candy sales and to use candy as a means of building traffic and other dollar store merchandise sales for your business. Read on as I present 4 key display strategies to maximizing candy sales. If you own a dollar store building candy sales starts with your candy aisle. It must be fully stocked with the most in-demand items your customers seek. You will be amazed to see so many people who stop in to pick up their favorite candy bar or a small bag of candy before, during and after work. And of course they will frequently pick up other dollar store merchandise while in your store. This can only be accomplished if there is a good selection of candy always on display and available to be purchased. Lobby displays are another great way to really excite shoppers. Why wouldn’t they be excited to see a huge assortment of candy as they enter your store? Holiday candy displays sell well. Consider lobby displays whenever you have been able to negotiate a great deal on wholesale pricing for candy. As the candy sells down simply move it into the candy aisle and create a new lobby display of another type of dollar store merchandise you have purchased in quantity. End Cap displays are like gold when you own a dollar store. This is one location where merchandise can stand alone; away from all other dollar store merchandise. Take advantage of this selling opportunity whenever you purchase a large quantity of one or two candy items. Make sure the end cap is full. As the candy sells down, simply swing it into the candy aisle of your store. Cash register displays are great for the more popular candy items; especially candy bars and candy treats. Shoppers who may have neglected to purchase while moving through your store will see the candy and grab one and add it to their purchase. Be sure to rotate different candy products through your registers to keep shoppers excited and buying. Candy products generally come with tight profit margins. Focus on buying during specials, closeouts and whenever you are offered special pricing. There will be high volume sales of the most popular candy items. Your challenge is to add to the bottom line by locating wholesale prices that provide the most profit to your dollar store business. To your success when you own a dollar store! Find out how you can open your own dollar store business. Bob Hamilton is an entrepreneur, author, writer, business consultant and trainer.
