To make sure that an organization maintains a smooth flow of their business operations, one aspect to consider is employment of staff. While staffing is the process of recruiting people to perform certain duties, organization is the allocating of tasks and responsibilities to these persons within the company. The duty of the manager is to divide operations into tasks that can be preformed by different people and also select the people who are well suited for each job.

This whole process must be directed towards achieving the objectives of the business hence staffing should be directly related to the organization of the business. A company's management must seek to employ experienced and qualified staff. They then should be trained to perfect their skills and hence perform their duties as expected. Training will also help them assume their responsibilities confidently.

Organizations should avoid over-staffing for this may lead to a drop in overall output due to interference in the workplace and also large number of employees will limit the amount of fixed inputs available for use. On the other hand under-staffing will lead to non-fulfillment of objectives because the targeted level of output will not be achieved due to lack of enough labor.

Employing unqualified or semi-skilled staff will lead to low quality production and sluggishness in carrying out of duties. The management should therefore realize recruiting qualified staff promotes the coordination of individual efforts to achieve common objectives.

Once the duties have been assigned among the staff, the management should also divide the resources appropriately. The right type and amount of resources should go to the right task. This will help avoid duplication of work.

Optimum staffing is hence vital for effective organization to take place in any business.
