Creating Marketing Objectives for Your Business

Marketing objectives are the goals you want to accomplish when putting together the business marketing plan for a business. In reality, every business has three main marketing objectives, which are to build awareness, attract leads for your business and then turn these leads into paying customers.

Building Awareness

Building awareness for your business is all about making your potential customers aware that your business exists and how it can benefit them. And whether or not you’re starting a new business or your business has been around for years, there are always potential new customers to bring awareness to. If you’re a consultant, you may be building awareness or building a brand around you. Maybe you created a 7-step system for budding entrepreneurs to use to start and operate a successful small business. In this case, you’re building a brand around your 7-step system. The bottom line is that you want to build a brand around your business in order to make your potential clients take notice.

Capture Leads

As you attract potential customers make sure you have a system in place to capture their information. This step is essential to converting leads into sales. You can capture leads on your website by adding a subscription box. You can gather lead information at a tradeshow by having a drawing where contestants have to fill out a slip for a chance to win. You can ask for a name and email address when a prospect calls your business on the phone. The options for capturing leads are almost endless. The point is you have to do it.

Convert to Sales

You can convert your leads into business with many different efforts and on many different levels. Continuous communication (continuing to bring awareness to your leads) is a surefire way to convert some of your prospective leads into clients. Some conversion tools include monthly e-newsletters, direct mail campaigns, coupons and free samples. The average number of times you have to get in front of your prospective client before they become your paying client is five to seven times, so think of as many creative ways as you can to communicate information, announcements, promotions and more with your audience. It will help to move them from prospects to customers.

Now that you know your three marketing objectives are to build awareness, attract leads and convert leads, now it’s time to put some action into these objectives. Think of new and creative ways specific to your business that you can use to move toward achieving your marketing objectives.
