Tips on where to go walking in the Seychelles The Seychelles isn't just an ideal place to enjoy a relaxing beach holiday - it also a great location if you want to get active. One of the best ways to explore the tropical country is to go walking, and these are some of the top hiking trails you'll find here. Easy routes You don't have to be extremely fit to be able to enjoy strolling around the Seychelles, as the Indian Ocean country has plenty of places that aren't too strenuous to walk around. If you visit Mahe - the largest island in the Seychelles - you'll find several trails that are suitable for people of all ages and levels of fitness. Go to Anse Major and walk along the north-western coastline of the island. The stroll will take up to one and half hours each way and you'll come to the picturesque beach of Anse Major. A lot of the trek will take you through the Morne Seychellois National Park and here you'll be able to see a few examples of the country's unique vegetation. You could also embark on the Vacoa Nature Trail, which takes just 30 minutes to complete. This is ideal if you're not particularly fit or you're on holiday in the Seychelles with children. The circular route surrounds the Dauban River and this is a great place to see mangrove swamps and screw pines or pandanus (also known as vacoa in Creole). Another easy trek is in Vallee de Mai on the island of Praslin. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is most famous for its unique flora and fauna and you'll be able to see coco-de-mer trees during your walk, which should last between two and four hours. These grow the largest seeds in the world, measuring up to 50 cm and weighing as much as 30 kg. Moderate treks If you're looking for something a little more challenging but aren't confident enough to try a truly demanding trek on your holiday, you could visit Glacis Noire on Praslin. This hike lasts approximately two hours and you'll be able to see the east coast of Praslin when you reach the fire tower on the top of the hillside. You can also spot many of the Seychelles's smaller islands from this vantage point. Challenging excursions Some people really love to break a sweat and give themselves a challenge, and if this sounds like you, there are several difficult treks you can embark on during your trip here. Visit Dans Gallas on Mahe, for instance. It doesn't take long to complete the trip (around three hours in total), but it can be very steep and so may not be suitable for holidaymakers who have a fear of heights, as well as those who aren't particularly fit. You will be able to enjoy a spectacular panoramic view along this route and reaching the top will offer vistas of Beau Vallon Bay, as well as northern Mahe and Victoria. However, you don't have to make it to the summit, as there is a wooden shelter halfway along the trail, where you'll still be able to enjoy beautiful sights, such as of the turquoise seas and white sand beaches. After finishing one or more of these physically-demanding trails, you'll be able to lie on the beach and soak up the sun feeling very virtuous indeed!
