Enjoy fabulous Florence cuisine on a villa break

Travel & Tourism
Renting a villa in Florence is a great way to sample the best of Italy's rich cuisine. Although it is possible to enjoy fantastic food all over the country, heading to the city will put you in the ideal place to tuck into a wealth of Florentine and Tuscan specialities.

Of course, the fact you have chosen to rent a villa in Tuscany means you'll be staying in luxurious, well-appointed accommodation that comes with a modern kitchen. However, it'd be a crime to make all your own meals for the duration of your break as you would miss out on the Tuscan capital's glittering array of eateries.

Visit Enoteca Pinchiorri and you can be confident of enjoying fine cuisine in decadent surroundings. Main courses here start from around €80 (about £65), so while it is not a cheap option, the quality of food on offer makes the premium price tag worthwhile.

Among the specialities served by the eatery are squash risotto with sauteed scampi and balsamic vinegar, ravioli filled with polenta and monkfish filled with goose liver, served with Jerusalem artichokes and a dash of squid ink.

Whatever you eat, there's plenty of choice when selecting something to wash it down with. The wine list consists of more than 200 varieties, while there are also a range of rare rums and whiskies to sample. Take a post-dinner stroll to the nearby Piazza della Signoria, the public square which is home to the stunning Palazzo Vecchio town hall.

If you're in the mood for pizza - you're going to Italy after all - you will be in the right place when you book Tuscany villas. Visit Pizzaiuolo on Via Dei Macci to tuck into authentic Naples-style pizza, which has a high crust but thin centre. Seafood lovers will also be in their element here, as the establishment counts spicy cuttlefish and octopus salad among its specialities.

Head to Trattoria 4 Leoni, a cosy establishment located near the Renaissance-era Palazzo Pitti, and you can tuck into a selection of traditional Florentine and Tuscan dishes. Settle into the rustic furniture and you can try gran fritto dell'aia - a mixture of deep-fried chicken, rabbit and vegetables - pepposa (a peppery kind of beef stew) and tortelli alla Mugellana. In the summer months you can dine outside underneath a public square, while the colourfully-decorated inside features exposed brickwork.

Visit the 'Ino deli near the iconic Uffizi gallery, meanwhile, for a range of sandwiches made using the finest ingredients, including cured meat and saltless Tuscan bread.

Choose to rent a villa in Tuscany and you'll be able to sample the region's authentic cuisine. By coming to Invitation to Tuscany, a leading provider of Tuscany villas, you can stay in charming Florence and tuck into tasty local dishes.
