If you are like me, when I used to play football, you’ve probably asked the question how do you jump higher? Well there is an answer. Actually there’s lots of ways to improve and my intention is to help you find more ways to improve your vertical. What you need to do first is the most critical. It’s to drop some pounds. Now if you are already at your ideal body weight for your size then that’s fine. The idea behind this is that you are trying to reduce weight while increasing strength and power. For example, race cars can run better when they are stripped down to almost nothing but the frame and are as light as they can possibly be. That's what you're trying to accomplish as well. Lower weight and increase performance. You can do this by eating better foods and short distance running. Maybe half a mile to a mile. If you are already in good shape then it’s time to start training. Body weight workouts are ideal if you are a beginner athlete or if you’ve have not lifted weights before. Body squats (performed just like regular squats but without weight) and single leg calve raises are excellent for early development. By doing 3 sets of 25 to 30 body squats alone can help you gain a few inches in a couple of weeks. I would only do calve raises once or twice a week though because they can be easily overtrained. After you’ve gained more strength, then you can move on to other exercises with weights and beginner plyometrics. Increasing your vertical leap is possible and you can do it by working smarter and harder. Follow the steps in this article and you will be able to increase your vertical leap. Want to read more?
