A winter ski holiday in the Austrian mountains has all the ingredients necessary to create a wonderful and memorable family ski holiday. Our favourite resort is St Anton, a welcoming destination that is well geared up for our younger skiers and snow lovers. There are some excellent children’s areas, very accessible baby slopes, plentiful childcare options and, when it comes to family friendly catered ski chalets, St Anton has a huge choice. Fun on the Slopes for Kids Little skiers are so well catered for in St Anton. Five years ago, a high-speed chair lift that seats six people was installed, making access to the Glazig pistes even easier for families and ski schools. The lift has an automatic child safety latch, restraining bar and a weather protection cover, which means that only one adult is required to accompany up to five children. The Fun Slope for the little ones, located between Osthang and Zammermoosbahn, is always a big attraction. Perfect for beginners and children, this snow covered play park, with its bridges, tunnels and other features is ideal for building confidence. Head to slope no. 23 for find Hase Hoppel, the local ski school’s mascot. Your youngsters can go searching for hidden animals with this big furry bunny who also teaches them lots of useful rules to remember while skiing on the pistes. Ski Schools While a family holiday is all about spending time together, mums and dads are bound to want to head off to enjoy a couple of hours on the mountain without the little ones. This is where the ski schools come into their own. Not only do they offer excellent tuition for your youngsters who will probably be skiing better than you by the end of the week, but you can also rest assured that they are well taken care of. Activities for Kids Action packed fun filled days are definitely the order of every day in St Anton and even if the kids need a break from the skis, there is plenty to keep them occupied. Tobogganing and Swimming Hire out a sledge from one of the many sports shops in town and head to the 4km natural tobogganing track that leads from Gampen to Nasserein for fun guaranteed! Alternatively, the pool and wellness centre in town is very modern and offers a nice change of pace from skiing out on the slopes. There’s a heated pool and a separate children’s pool, just perfect for family fun in the water. Where to Stay A great accommodation choice when you are skiing with the family is a chalet, and when it comes to catered ski chalets, St Anton has plenty of choice. With breakfast, dinner and afternoon tea provided, you don’t have to think about any shopping or meal planning and can instead just enjoy your time together. Skiing with children is a lot of fun and when you choose the right resort you can look forward to a holiday full of memories that you will all cherish forever.
