The main objective in training for a half marathon is to prepare one’s body to run 13.1 miles efficiently without endangering one’s health. Training to run a half marathon does not only required one to prepare his or her body and mind but he or she has to prepare for the right equipment or gear he or she would be using during the training and the race itself. Running the half marathon is already a challenge to overcome without adding complication of improper running gears. Typically, the weather on the day of the half marathon would help one decide what clothing to wear. If it is possible one should train on a similar weather conditions and temperature as the day of the run. One can search the internet for the weather on that particular day of the race. One should expect to feel about 20 degrees F warmer than the air temperature once one gets his or her run underway. When the temperatures reach around 50 degrees F consider wearing long pants or running tights for the half marathon. During a training run, always test the clothes to be worn on the race itself. Using new type of clothing during the half marathon itself may leave one feeling discomfort and might experience chafing or rubbing. Testing the clothes to be worn would more or less give the one an idea of how the clothes will hold out over the 13.1 miles of the race. It is better to choose clothing made from synthetic, sweat-wicking material whether the half marathon one is joining is in cold or hot conditions. The materials keep the sweat away from the skin so the one would feel dry and do not chafe easily. A tank-top t0shirt or long-sleeved shirt for the top is preferable. Most races provide t-shirts upon registration but they are usually made from cotton and this retains moisture. For the bottom, a pair or running shorts or tights would be better. Sweat-wicking socks would keep the feet dry and reduces the possibility of blisters. The running shoes have to be comfortable and one has to have tried them several times to avoid support issues or blisters. Other additional gear one would want to wear would depend on one’s preference. Some runners wear running watch which calculates their pace. The watch helps the runner stay on the strategy which he or she may have planned or track to finish in the half marathon in the goal time. A sweat-wicking hat or headband is often used by runners to keep the sweat from their eyes. While others wear a hat with a bill in order shade their face from the sun. Generally half marathons provide water stations but there are runners who want to carry their own bottle of water or sport drink. One may consider getting a running belt which can hold the bottle. Another option is a handled water bottle which has a strap which keeps it on the hand.
