Rahu Ketu is known as the nodes of the Moon. Rahu is the North Node and Ketu is the South Node. Rahu and Ketu have the prime importance in Vedic Astrology. They are called as Chayya Grahas (shadow planets). They have no material and are not physically exist. Even their impact is full of strength and divine meaning. With their shadowy nature, they act on an emotional level. It is always difficult to count their effect because they affectinternally. As the Amrit was found the Gods wanted to keep it for themselves as they felt that the demons would use it for the incorrect purpose. Vasuki being a demon sacrificed him for others. Vasuki, was more intelligent than the other demons, he was not willing to be distracted by the Gods. He drank the nectar of immortality secretly. The Sun and the Moon protested to Lord Vishnu, the creator of the Universe. He became very angry at this dishonesty. In anger he threw the Sudharshan Chakra at Vasuki and cut him into two. Vasuki had drunk the Amrita and was immortal, thus could not be killed. He persisted in the sky as Rahu(the head) and Ketu (the lower half), as a permanent reminder to the other planets(Gods) about the darker side of life which we have to defeat in the pursuit of immortality or inlife. Rahu and Ketu are considered great enemies of the Sun and the Moon because they told Lord Vishnu about them. They symbolically swallow the two celebrities during the eclipses. They can darken the Sun and the Moon so Rahu Ketu has the most powerful influences in our horoscope. The Sun, around whom the other planets and the solar system revolve, the Moon which controls life on earth, are covered by Rahu Ketu during eclipses.
