We have all heard of moles, but what about the word voles? Both are burrowing animals that are extremely irritating to farmers. These rodents can cause a great deal of damage to crops and machinery, thus causing financila hardship to those who have to cover the cost of reapirs without the crops to sell.
Moles are solitary animals and for each burrow you will only find one mole. Moles are insectivors, eating worms and grubs. While burrowing, moles can damage crops and turf by uprooting plants. The burrow area that they leave behind can be damaging to machinery and are horrible looking across any landscape.
Voles, otherwise known as field mice, live in colonies and their population can explode enormously under the right circumstances. Voles for the most part eat green surface vegetation. These small creatures have multiple holes that may or may not be inter connected underground. Voles can build new colonies and sometimes colonies that are adjacent can expand until they overlap.
For years farmers have fought these annoying little creatures to no avail. Knowing the patterns of these creatures is the first step into eliminating them from your land.
