If you're a Rotarian, like myself, you know how stressful it can be to locate an out-of-town club. Fortunately, for those of us who use iPhones, life just got a little bit easier and fines got a lot smaller, thanks to the new Rotary Club Locator app. Rotary Club Locator, which is offered free from Rotary International, is the number one source for finding out-of-town meeting places, times, and directions. You no longer need to access a computer or phone a friend to find a meeting; Rotary has gone mobile. Search for your a make-up meeting by city, state, country, or browse clubs that are within a certain distance from your location and the app will generate a list of clubs. Select a club from the list, to get a map of its location, or let your iPhone display a broader region, with all of the surrounding meeting places. Either way, you're sure to find a club for your make-up meeting and you're not going to be paying a fine this week. You can also access contact information for each club president and secretary, once you have signed yourself in as a valid Rotarian. This is done by entering your RI login email and password, which must first be registered on the Member Access website. The only feature that the app is lacking is a 'get directions' integration. The app is simple to operate and it provides needed locations, but it doesn't tell the user how to get there. Lets face it, if Rotary International is going to go mobile, they need to understand that turn-by-turn navigation has replaced the era of the map. The Rotary Club Locator app will soon be released for Android and Blackberry devices, but no specific date has been set. I can only hope that RI carries on with this technological theme and expands the availability of the app to all mobile operating systems. Overall, Rotary Club Locator is a brilliant application. It serves a purpose and it does it well. Download it today, save yourself a few bucks in fines next week, and if you have any questions CellPig will be happy to help.
