Typhoon “Pedring” had laid waste to many villages and cities when it passed through the Philippines last Tuesday, September 27, 2011. Though many are still struggling to salvage anything left from their homes and their properties, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration or PAGASA had announced that another typhoon will hit the Philippines in the coming days. This typhoon is named as Tropical Typhoon Quiel. Strength and Aftermath of Typhoon Pedring As of September 28, 2011, at exactly 5pm, the eye of Typhoon Pedring is said to be 520 km West Northwest of Baguio City, and is said to head towards the southern part of China. Typhoon Pedring, internationally known as Typhoon Nesat, is said to have packed a maximum sustained winds of 120 kph near the center and a gustiness of up to 150 kph. And when it hit the northern part of Luzon, many villages and cities were destroyed due to strong winds and flooding. As of today, many of these villages and cities are still submerged in flood water. According to Philippines Current Events, Isabala was one of the provinces which was heavily devastated by the typhoon, in which 80% of their agriculture was destroyed by Pedring. Today, however, instead of rebuilding their stocks, their homes, and their properties, many provinces found in the extreme north of Luzon is preparing for yet another typhoon which will directly hit the northern provinces. This is Typhoon Quiel which will hit landfall in the weekends an this is the Current Events in Philippines. Quiel’s Strength Forecast Known now as a severe tropical storm according to Philippines Current Events, Quiel is packing maximum winds of 110 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 140 kph, forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said Thursday in an interview. He also added that the typhoon wont be felt until it swirls near Cagayan, which is said to be on Sunday. Most of those that will be affected by Typhoon Quiel are provinces found in the extreme north of Luzon include Cagayan, Batanes and Ilocos Norte. And although smaller compared to Pedring’s coverage, which is said to be 650-km in diameter while Quiel is 300-km wide, Quiel’s strength can still pack a punch. According to PAGASA, affected provinces should now start packing provisions, while those living in land-slide and flooding prone areas should now move to higher grounds and safer grounds. This is in preparation of what destruction Qiuel can display.
