On September 30, 2011, at 7pm, the PBA Press Corps, which are group of sportswriters that covers the PBA games, will stage its annual awards to commemorate those people that stood out from the basketball industry of the Philippines. It is widely debated now among the PBA of who will receive the Virgilio “Baby” Dalupan Trophy for the coach of the year, and the Danny Floro Trophy for the Executive of the Year, which are the highlights of the said event. According to a number of PBA Latest News, Coach Chot Reyes, coach to the Talk n Text PBA team, is said to be the leading candidate to win the Coach of the Year awards, which is currently held by Meralco Coach Ryan Gregorio. It is said that if he fails to retain the Coach of the Year award, Gregorio will have to turn over the permanent trophy to his would-be successor, which is rumored to be Reyes. The Coach of the Year winner for this year will also get a replica of the permanent ware. In addition to that, Coach Reyes had already won the awards previously, particularly in 1993, 2002, 2003, and 2009. Currently, Coach Reyes serves as an assistant coach to Rajko Toroman in the 26th FIBA Asia Championship. As for the Executive of the Year award, Talk n Text team owner Manny V. Pangilinan is rumored to be the leading candidtate to win the award. According to PBA News, members of the champion teams, Talk n Text and Petron Blaze, are rumored to dominated the awards, which was also an affair presented by Talk ‘N Text, San Miguel Corp. and Powerade. Dave Floro, son of the late Crispa team owner, is said to be on hand to personally award the Danny Floro Trophy, while PBA commissioner Chito Salud, board chairman Mert Mondragon and other PBA officials are also expected to grace the affair to be hosted by Sev Sarmenta and Patricia Bermudez-Hizon. Other awards which can be won are the Mr. Quality Minutes, William “Bogs” Adornado-Comeback Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, All-Rookie Selection, Referee of the Year, and Order of Merit winner. Those that currently holds those titles are the Alaska Milk owner Wilfred Uytengsu as Executive of the Year, Gabe Norwood as Defensive Player of the Year, KG Canaleta as Mr. Quality Minutes, Kelly Williams as Comeback Player of the Year, Manolito Quilinguen Referee of the Year and Rico Maierhofer, Josh Urbiztondo, Jervy Cruz, Ronnie Matias and Ogie Menor making up the All-Rookie Team.
