Cat owners love their feline friends and do whatever they can to take care of their pets, but some of the things our pets do can be very confusing, and sometimes even destructive. Many cat owners are baffled as to why their pets hate taking their heartgard for cats but try to eat things off the floor, why they feel the need to yowl at 3 am, or why they hate getting baths but will willingly play in the toilet. Every cat has their own unique personality and needs, but there are some confusing cat behaviors that can be easily explained. Your cat loves to run at high speeds for no reason You're sitting comfortably in your living room with your cat, when suddenly they get up and starting running around the house. After doing a few laps around the house, they calm down and lay next to you like nothing out of the ordinary just happened. Your constantly napping cat may not seem like they're full of energy, but cats are active creatures that can have a lot of energy they feel the need to expel. This is very true for housecats that settle into a comfortable pattern of sleeping and eating. If your cat's behavior bothers you try playing with them more to tire them out; a laser pointer will get them running around the house in no time. Your cat keeps licking and sucking blankets and other objects Many cat owners know that some cats need objects for affection and comfort, but not too many know that licking and sucking fabric can have the same affect. Some cats like to suck and lick wool or cotton material. Some do it because the find it comforting, others because they like the texture of the object, and others simply because they just like to lick things. As long as your cat isn't ingesting material from licking the behavior isn't harmful to their health, and some cats even end up growing out of it all together. Drinking from faucets Your cat has their very own water dish, but you always see them perched on the bath tub or the kitchen sink waiting for water to drip. Cats, and generally all animals, love fresh water, and nothing is fresher than continually flowing water sources. Some cats have even been known to gently move their paws around their water dish so they can make the water move. If their faucet licking behavior is causing a problem, swap out their water dish for a kitty water fountain.
