A Savannah Cat is the crossing of an African Serval to a domestic cat. This cross made for a very large pet that looked wild but acted domestic. The first cross on the Serval to a internal cat was an accidental breeding by Judy Honest in 1986. At first the term spread slowly then in the mid 90's Joyce Sroufe seen this cross and started her very own breeding program. The rest as we say is "history". The Savannah breed was born.
Since their own inception the Savannah Cat is continuing to grow exponentially. In 1997 a breed standard was created by Joyce Sroufe together with submitted to TICA (that international cat association) and was accepted.
Savannahs are recognized for their long slender figures, big ears, long thighs and their spots. The Savannah cat is one of the newest and most exciting breeds of cats currently being developed by a select few breeders around the world. There are still relatively few Savannahs in existence, and the demand to deal with is quite high.
How to choose a Savannah Breeder?
Choosing a Savannah Cat Breeder does not have to be difficult. Search the net for a savannah breeder and email them once they have a kitten you like. It is best to discover a savannah cat breeder locally but that may not necessarily be possible. You ought to ship a kitten back.
Be sure to ask lots of questions. A good savannah breeder are going to be happy to answer as many questions as you get. If you can, go go to the cattery. Is it clean or receive an odor? Do the cats look healthy? Are the many cats and savannah cats friendly? Is the breeder safe? These are all significant clues.
