Vacation with you and your dog. You could be surprised how fun this can be for your and your pooch. You could fly your dog to your destination. This can be expensive, inconvenient (where would your dog pee in the airport?), and unhealthy for your dog. But a trip by car can be an adventure and a blast. If you are going on a two-week vacation or quick trip across town, car travel with dogs is the beginning of exciting journeys for both of you! Car travel is easy and fun for many dogs. For others, it is something to avoid. If you haven’t really take your dog out in the car, start him or her early. Go in the car for short rides to fun places like the park (not the vet!). You may even try, letting you dog sit in the parked, quiet car for 15 minutes before you even turn the car on. As far as riding the car, you really should have your dog buckled in or caged. Letting your dog ride with his or her head out the window is passe and just dangerous. What if a bee or pebble ends up in her ear or eye at 50 miles per hour? What if you have to stop suddenly? The safest way for a dog to travel in a car is restrained in the back seat or cargo area if you have a SUV. For restraining a dog during a car trip, a dog car cage or crate is great way to keep them safe. If a crate in the car is too much to deal, a dog seat belt can keep your dog safe in the case of a sudden stop or accident. These specially designed for the body of a dog to keep him secure and comfortable . Plan ahead if you will be out traveling in the car for a while. Bring a water dish and bottle of water for drink breaks. If your really be out for a while, also bring a food dish and some food. But don’t forget the pooper scooper (or just a plastic baggie) so you can stop at an appropriate place where your pooch can relieve himself. And keep an extra leash in the car--you never know when you'll need it. If you you like to take car trips, you will want to travel with your dog. They are your best friend at home and she or he can be on the road too. Take just a little time to plan your trip and get the right gear to make your dog safe and you both will find car travel with dogs so rewarding!
