In the past, I talked a little bit about network marketing. But thinking about it now, I don’t think I ever mentioned that I was part of a network marketing company at one point in my life. World Financial Group. However, I signed up under someone who ran a company under a different name. It’ll take a bit of time to explain that, so I’m not going to. But here’s what I do want to talk about. During my training, my supervisor encouraged me to attend as many networking events as I possibly can. He handed me a stack of business cards and told me this specific instruction: “Your objective is to collect as many business cards as you can. When you talk to someone, keep the conversation to a maximum of two minutes. You don’t want to spend too much time on one person so you don’t lose out on potential connections.” So what were the results after going to several events? A lot of business cards collected, but never kept in touch with almost anyone. Either they figured out that I’m involved with a network marketing company, which wasn’t that difficult judging by the things I said to people, or I never properly built a solid relationship foundation with them. But ever since I walked away from network marketing for good, I changed my approach. Approach only a handful of people, preferably people who don’t wear suits, and have a conversation with them on a deep level. Less contacts for me, but the quality of the relationship I have with people are much higher. And if I think it’s fit, I’ll even ask some of them to join my email list and email them daily to build the relationship even further. I email them using the same teachings in How to Become an Email Titan. You can use it no matter what business you’re in. But the most important parts are it’ll engage your readers, build strong relationships, and make you sales.
