201. Why I chose music production over photography
May 20, 2021
Music vs pictures.
Which one is more likely to provoke an emotional response?
That was one of the main questions I had in mind when I was choosing between music and photography as my new hobby to pursue about two years ago.
At the time, I was taking a film photography class in college and I was having a conversation with a friend, who’s also a photography enthusiast, while we visited a photography expo.
We were talking about how we both thought about learning music production as a hobby, but we had different reasons for getting into it.
I wanted to get into it because ... (read more)

202. The story of unapologetic apartment trespassers
May 18, 2021
I can’t believe these types of people exist.
Let me explain.
On a podcast episode, there were two people (Dave and Ed) who moved into a new apartment in Koreatown, Los Angeles. After they moved in, they threw a house party where anyone in the town was allowed to attend.
But that wasn’t the only party, they threw a couple of other weekend house parties as well.
Soon enough, they pretty much established themselves as the new friendly, welcoming neighbors of Koreatown.
And while it sounds nice to have a good reputation in a new neighborhood, this particular one came with ... (read more)

204. A close examination into cancel culture
May 17, 2021
That is going to be the topic for today.
I read a sentence online that was really interesting, which was, “Cancel culture is not real.”
Let’s think about this for a few minutes because it’s possible that there’s possibly some truth in that sentence.
First off, the way it works is that somebody, typically a celebrity or influencer, says or does something their critics don’t like, they bombard them with negativity and criticism, and then they disappear from the face of the world.
Sometimes their critics call them out on an opinion that they don’t agree with.
Sometimes th... (read more)

205. Here's a useful profile of sleazy online businesspeople
May 14, 2021
Once again, Buzzfeed has sucked me into another one of their entertaining articles.
This time it was about different red flags that people came across from their previous jobs.
There were plenty of stories, but I will only share two today.
The first story was about a person who worked as a salesperson for a vacuum company. The first sales call he made was to an elderly woman. She had no interest in buying a vacuum, plus she was trying to support her son who was in the hospital. Despite her declining, the supervisor took over the call and pushed the sale on the woman to the point... (read more)

206. The classical Periodontal treatment protocol
May 14, 2021
The classical Periodontal treatment protocol is generally divided into 4 stages: 1.Initial phase (or cleaning phase) 2.Assessment phase 3.Surgical phase 4.Maintenance phase As periodontitis usually occurs in the context of untreated periodontal disease, it is essential to carry out periodontal treatment of the whole mouth prior to oral implant placement or treatment of periodontitis. In the initial phase of treatment, a non-surgical approach is usually used. The patient's oral hygiene is effectively controlled and dental calculus and plaque are removed by subgingival scraping and... (read more)

207. The true power of Voldemort's influence
May 13, 2021
Normally, villains are not to be admired.
But if I had to choose one to admire, I’d pick Lord Voldemort.
If you’re unfamiliar with that name, he was the main villain in the Harry Potter series.
His life mission was to cleanse the wizarding world of all Muggles, AKA non-wizard/witch born people, and then take over the wizarding world as well as the normal world.
He was also the leader of a group of evil wizards called the Death Eaters that helped him carry out his mission.
And he would have succeeded if it weren’t for this one meddling child….
Harry Potter himself.... (read more)

209. Either McDonald's is smart or wicked
May 12, 2021
One thing that’s mind-blowing is just how much of a presence McDonald’s has in the entire world.
In the United States alone (Except for Montpelier, Vermont), they have over 14,000 restaurants. That’s about 4,000 more than the number of hospitals established countrywide.
One interesting thing I recently learned about them is how they get us hooked into their world at a young age.
Listen to this.
There was an article written two months ago on Mashed titled, “The Dangerous Truth Lurking Inside Every McDonald's Happy Meal“ where a neuroscientist named Dr. Nicole Avena dove deep... (read more)

210. Addressing another prediction from a self-proclaimed Internet marketing prophet
May 10, 2021
I just saw this post on Facebook saying,
“Info products are dead! Yes, this is what people in Germany are telling you right now. Everyone goes for HT (high ticket) coaching. What’s your opinion?”
I’m glad you asked my fellow Facebook user.
First of all, let’s first define what an info product is. According to a random website I came across on DuckDuckGo, Startupbros.com, this is their definition:
“An information product (or info product) is any digital (I think physical should be included too) product that conveys knowledge or specific information, in the context of educati... (read more)

212. Settling the long ongoing Internet marketing debate once and for all
May 08, 2021
The ultimate Internet marketing debate has been going on since the existence of Myspace probably.
Which form of marketing is more superior, email marketing or social media marketing?
This is no different than arguing which is better, old or new? Some say “old is gold,” but others will counter-argue, “old is not always gold, sometimes new is what to do.”
This reminds me of a video I recently watched from a content creator named Dhar Mann.
Long story short, it was about an interior design company figuring out how to better market themselves. They had a long dry spell of inbou... (read more)

213. Ben Franklin helps people become better marketers from beyond his grave
May 06, 2021
Ben Franklin wrote a short document on October 1730 called, “On Conversation.” I took a couple of minutes to read the document myself, and admittedly, it’s a bit of a heavy read. Luckily, a philosopher by the name of Jonny Thomson broke it down so we can digest the information better. He boiled it down to five major mistakes that’ll make you an unlikeable person, which are: 1. Talking too much Because nobody likes a chatterbox that doesn’t know how to shut his or her mouth. There are a few exceptions though. I personally know someone who can talk all day, but I do... (read more)

214. The time of marketers getting their wallets fat from cookies may be coming to an end
May 05, 2021
I’m not talking about the baked goods, silly.
I’m talking about computer cookies.
Computer cookies are pieces of data that track activities that you do on the computer like the websites you visited, the items you added to the shopping cart of an online retail store, saving login information, and other things of that nature.
For marketers, they’re used to track their customers’ behaviors and run effective retargeting ads, which is why sometimes you see certain ads “follow” you around on the Internet.
But now, companies are getting more strict on how they manage the data they... (read more)

215. How Affiliate Marketing Can Enable You To Work From Home
May 04, 2021
Most of us in our own homes are extremely happy. This is where all our comforts are maintained. Part of the daily grind of a career is going home. If you have children to remember, the challenge is even harder. All of us would like to work from home. We are much more relaxed and efficient. Nevertheless, very few daily occupations offer such versatility. They want workers to be supervised and monitored on-site. If you want to live from home, the affiliate marketing company might be the response. If you have a computer, there is no excuse why your home office can't become your new home busi... (read more)

216. Captialism at its finest
May 04, 2021
One of my friends shared some unfortunate news that he may lose his job because the company he has been working for was acquired by another well-established company.
Here’s the story.
The former CEO allowed a brokerage to invest in the company, and they seemed excited to start working together.
A few years later, the brokerage company insisted on letting their sister company, an investment bank, get involved as well, and the former CEO approved it partly for nepotistic reasons.
At the end of 2020, he gets a phone call from his lender saying that they sold part of his debt t... (read more)

217. "Pretty Privileges" are invalid in business
May 03, 2021
Back in the days when I was a naive teenager, I came across other like-minded teenagers who would complain about good-looking people, that they have unfair advantages in life.
Apparently, there’s even a term for it, which is...
“Pretty Privilege.”
So what are some of the unfair advantages they were speaking of?
Well, from my observations and word-of-mouth:
1. They have better chances of landing a job.
2. They’re more likable and get more attention (Which can be bad). But as a result…
3. They’re naturally more persuasive too.
4. They also have an easier t... (read more)

218. Why people are so addicted to reading YouTube comments
April 30, 2021
One thing that’s great about the Internet is that it allows the most weird and humorous people to anonymously express themselves.
And one of the most common places to do that is the YouTube comments section.
Oftentimes I catch myself skimming through the comments before I even start watching the actual video.
I remember coming across one of those public child-shaming videos. In the video, the mother was asking her teenage son to help her with something. To which the boy responded, “Not now. I’m busy reading YouTube comments.” Of course, like all public child-shaming videos endin... (read more)

219. How to take over an entire planet without force
April 29, 2021
Let’s go back to Doctor Who for a second.
I’ve been catching up on the newer seasons lately and as always, they were as enjoyable as ever. At least, until season 11 and 12, when new writers took over. I don’t know what they did, but the show just doesn’t feel the same anymore.
You know something’s wrong when you’re watching a show and you don’t get the temptation to binge-watch.
But prior to that mess, there’s a certain episode I want to talk about.
It starts off by introducing new villains that call themselves the Monks, who are shapeshifters that made themselves appear as... (read more)

220. The company that tries to lure new customers in with $100 gift cards
April 27, 2021
I had a pretty interesting morning a few days ago.
My grandpa recently moved to his new apartment and he was given instructions on how to set up the electricity and phone line.
He asked my mom to help set everything up, and later on, she asked me to help out since her English fluency isn’t the best.
She told me she was on the line with a Verizon salesperson.
Now during the phone call, there were a few suspicious red flags that came up:
1. The person on the line who sounded like he’s from India, named Chris which I doubt is his actual name, said I was eligible to win a ... (read more)

221. The things that men do thatll get them no action
April 26, 2021
Buzzfeed cranks out some pretty entertaining content.
I found this one particular article that I had fun reading. It was called,
“Women Are Sharing The Things Guys Do That Turn Them Off Immediately And It Is All The Truth There Ever Was.”
Some of my favorite quotes that were listed are:
"Saying they don't order 'girly' drinks. Instead of making them look manly, it just makes them look insecure."
I touched upon this a little bit in an email I wrote last year with the subject line, “My relationship with alcohol.” If I had to choose one alcoholic beverage to drink for the... (read more)

222. A powerful tool that'll help you write thousands of words worth of content in just minutes
April 25, 2021
Recently, I’ve been seeing people promote a new AI writing software on the copywriting block.
I’m seeing it everywhere on Facebook, YouTube, and in my email inboxes.
When I saw it in action, man, was I impressed.
At the speed that it operates, you can write three or four long articles in a day. Someone even wrote and published an entire book in just one week.
Heck, I can use it to write my emails in under two minutes.
I admit it, it’s a powerful tool and has the potential to wipe out those who create content as a living, but not completely.
After reflecting, a few... (read more)

223. How To Boost Sales Using Instagram Stories
April 25, 2021
Instagram stories are 24-hour-only posts that appear in the avatar icon on an Instagram profile; they're a fun, engaging, and snappy way to present content while also increasing brand awareness.
Used effectively, Instagram’s stories can be instrumental in boosting your businesses engagement rate and, in turn, sales. Let’s walk through some of the best ways to use this feature to your advantage:
Post content from behind-the-scenes. Show your audience a behind-the-scenes look at your company and a regular day at the office. Show off a behind-the-scenes look at what happens on a daily... (read more)

224. The wrong way to be inspired by other people's content
April 23, 2021
More than once, I’ve seen instances where these social media famous Internet Business Mentors were caught copying other people’s content.
And if you hung around the Internet marketing community for a good amount of time, then you’ve probably heard of these business mentors whose names I will not mention.
There have been two cases that I recently heard about this issue:
The first case takes place on YouTube and a lot of people don’t realize there’s a huge plagiarism pandemic going on in that space. People have made videos showing their viewers that these Internet Business Mentors... (read more)

225. When Impatience Can Lead to Business Success ... Or Failure
April 22, 2021
Tales from the Online Marketing Crypt #16
How the Gurus Are Setting You Up for Failure in Your Business (If You Let Them)
I am the impatient type of person. The moment I decide on what needs to be done, I want it done NOW!
Not tomorrow.
Not next week (heaven forbid!)
Ideally, it should have been done yesterday if I had things my way.
I’m sure I drive my team batty with my unrealistic expectations, but you know what? It’s a big reason why we are still thriving after 18 years.
You see, my impatience is to your benefit when it comes to our level of customer ... (read more)
