- Drug or alcohol abuse – If there is an abuse of drugs or alcohol and a partner becomes more violent, difficult, nasty, and selfish when using, one should be concerned, says Catherine W Real PA. Alcohol abuse and drug abuse are common amongst those with issues of abuse.
