In a move to provide affordable housing Punjab plans to develop Mohali and New Chandigarh as model cities. Addressing some of the leading real estate Mohaliflats Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said that real estate in Punjab is on the rise and New Chandigarh being set up adjacent to Chandigarh and Mohali would be developed as Model Cities. He also added that holy city of Amritsar would be developed as a model city in the next two years and the same will be replicated in other cities of Punjab with world class infrastructure like roads, sewerage, portable drinking water, beautification, landscaping, creation of green belts etc. He further emphasised on the potential investment opportunities in Punjab, he said that the upcoming New Chandigarh and Greater Mohali area will give the necessary boost and pace to economic growth and development of the state. The Government of Punjab is thinking of giving added incentives to developers builders who would be constructing complexes along landscaping, green belts, providing environment friendly solutions, solar energy, attractive entrances and a healthy living atmosphere. Laying stress on the need to build affordable houses/flats/apartments, Deputy Chief Minister Badal said that it is the need of the hour to build such houses in various group housing schemes so that the common masses of the state will be facilitated at large. Badal said these should be constructed with quality work to witness development having all necessary amenities and maintaining environment, pollution norms. With these announcements Deputy Chief Minister gave indications that his government is serious about development in the state and he is willing to the go the extra yard to give boost to developers to initiative in this effort of creating smart cities which will be replicated across cities in India.
