Having a roof that needs to be repaired or replaced can be a daunting and expensive project. When hiring a residential roofing contractor you want to be sure that you get one that will do the job correctly. To find one you could ask friends and family for recommendation. If you do not have any recommendations here are some tips to help ensure that you are hiring a reputable residential roofing contractor.
One important thing not to do is hire the first roofing contractor that you talk too. You should talk to several contractors before making your final decision. For each one that you talk to you should verify that they have the required licenses for your state. You can find out what the required licenses are by contacting the Department of Professional Regulations or the licensing board for your state.
There are shady residential roofing contractors that just work out of their van or truck and though they may offer a guarantee, if you need to enforce the guarantee they are not around. Verify that the company is legitimate by asking for their business address, website, email address, contact phone number, or tax identification number. Make sure that you verify the information that is given to you. If they do not want to give any of this information to you then you should move on to another contractor.
Ask the flat roofing contractor in Utah to come to your home to give you an estimate on the job. Check with them to see if they charge for the estimate. Get the estimate in writing so you can compare the contractors you are considering hiring. You should also ask the company to provide you with proof of insurance that includes liability coverage and worker’s compensations should one of their employees gets hurt on the job so you are not responsible for anything related to the accident. Although not all states require that these roofing specialists have this type of insurance it is advisable to hire a company that does have the insurance in order to protect yourself from any lawsuits if someone gets hurt while working on your roof. You should also verify that the insurance would cover the entire time the roofing project takes to complete. Make sure that you ask the residential roofing contractor for a list of references and be sure that you check them out. You should also ask for a few of their past clients so you can contact them to see if they were satisfied with the contractor’s work and if you could visit to see the work the contractor did for them. You could also check out the contractor’s reputation by contacting the Better Business Bureau.
