Moving house can be a stressful and intimidating task if you are not prepared well before the actual move date. One thing to realize is there will be far more things that you have accumulated over the years then you might realize. Organizing will be the key to a low stress move. Tackle one room at a time at least one month before the actual move. If you have been living in your current home for a longer period of time then it is a good idea to start a little sooner. Be Prepared Acquire some boxes for the move. You can always go to a moving company and purchase their boxes. Many moving companies will even buy back your boxes when you are done with them. Another good way to get some moving boxes is to contact a local supermarket or department store to see if they have any boxes laying around you could use. Nowadays many of these stores recycle their boxes, but smaller locally owned stores might not recycle yet, or try a department store in the mall because they might not have the room for a recycling bin. One more place to look for free boxes would be Craigslist. Craigslist has a free section where people post items they are looking to get rid of. Many times they will have moving boxes on there because once you are done moving there might not be space for a stack of boxes at their new home. Now that you have acquired the boxes start in the least used room such as a den, office, guest bedroom or even the basement. Go through each item and either pack it, trash it or make a sell pile. Selling your old things is a great way to get some extra money for your move. Next, go to the more often used rooms like the extra bathroom or even your bedroom. Decide what you will need to get by with until the move date, and pack, trash, or sell pile everything else. By the day of your move you will have but a few things left to pack and your stress level should be a lot lower. So, to reduce your stress while moving make sure you give yourself plenty of time, acquire some free or reasonably priced boxes and have a garage sale for all of your old stuff that you no longer use.
