There's nothing like a carpet to liven up a living area and to add a bit of class and elegance to the environment. It's also one of the things that you really need to be careful and informed about before you buy one, because after all it's not just about the design, style or pattern. The kind of carpet you like will also determine where it was made, who made it, and very often how it was made. And all these factors add to the complexity of the decision about which is the ideal choice for your home. But first, there are the things that are more or less up to you, for instance, where is the carpet going to be placed? Is it in a busy area, or will it be in a place where people will rarely walk over it? For carpets that will receive a lot of footfalls, a high quality hard twist or a loop pile carpet will be ideal. Otherwise, a cut pile carpet will do just fine. Then of course there's the color. You can't afford to invest in a beautiful carpet that will end up being an eyesore and clash with your walls and interiors. Narrow your color options to a few shades that will complement your room. Wool and nylon are the two most popular fibers that are used to make carpets. Nylon carpets, apart from being inexpensive are also very easy to wash and maintain. They are rugged and are probably the go-to fabric especially for households with children or pets. Wool carpets, on the other hand, are visibly more luxurious and bring their own unique charm that is conspicuously missing from anything synthetic. They are also extremely durable, flame-retardant and are more likely to be passed over the generations. Carpet lovers also swear by Persian rugs which are a world apart and have a look and feel to them that is nearly incomparable to anything else in the market. They are traditionally made with organic or vegetable dyes because of which the colors are always muted and exude an air of old-world sophistication and charm. The quality which is determined by the "Knots per Square Inch" of the rug will be decided by your budget. Anything over 100 KPSI is considered good quality and it is best to avoid anything below that. This is also a market that is very unforgiving of the novice or uninformed buyer. Avoid falling for traps like "Liquidation Sales", "Going Out of Business Sales", "Fake Custom Auctions" and the perennial "Last Dowry Carpet Sale".
