Most leather couches stay fresh for years. But they can last forever if the buyer will only keep an eye on them by knowing and abiding a few directions. Maybe he has forgotten where he has placed those printed instructions given by his furniture maker or by the happy salesman at the store. Here are a few suggestions on keeping the couch looking as good as new after many years. If the couch is indeed made of leather, he should wipe it regularly using a dirt-free moist rag or duster. Dusters dipped in soap or other cleaning compounds should never be used as they would surely mutilate the leather. Grease stains can be removed by using ordinary talcum powder. The talcum needs to be sprinkled over the area fully and be allowed to remain for a few minutes before rubbing with a cloth. If a stain does not get erased with ordinary cloth, somebody from the store or maker for special advice should be called. A fabric couch needs vacuum cleaning often. Vacuuming will remove the soil and dirt sticking to the fabric. Hard brushes to clean the fabric cannot be used as they tend to scratch or dent the fabric. If the couch has washable covers, all the covers should be washed at one go. This will make certain that they all will loosen color equally over time. A thorough search for bugs should also be made regularly after removing the covers. They can be found generally in the gaps and crevices. A lens or torch can easily locate them. A thorough vacuuming at these places with a hose that can reach those gaps in the couch will remove them. Also the covers need to be put in the dryer to kill the bugs sticking to them. A leather or fabric couch should never be placed right in front of the air conditioning system or at a corner where the sun rays fall directly over them. Fresh morning newspapers should not be allowed to lie on the couches as the print ink will sometimes be wet and stain them. Loose cushions on the couches should be fluffed and changed often. It is better to sit on several parts of the couch everyday so as to wear and tear the cushions equally. It is better not to eat or drink while lying on the couches. This rule applies specially for children. Household pets like dogs and cats should be coached not to sit or lie idle on the couches. Everyone should remove the shoes before sitting on them. Finally buying leather couches online should be done only after careful verification of the design, patterns and price. A leather couch that is taken good care of will not have the need to be replaced soon. It can stay as new for at least 10 years.
