Proper care and maintenance of electric pressure washers is important for protecting your investment and ensuring the long time use of these handy power tools. Most of the maintenance for electric pressure washers can be done simply at home by the operator. There are many parts that make up the pressure washer, so caring for them properly can make them last longer. The hoses for electric pressure washers can get a lot of wear from frequent use, so it is a good idea to ensure that you are using a hose that is rated for the pressure that your machine supplies in terms of pounds per square inch or psi. Hoses should be removed from electric pressure washers after use and should be looped loosely and either placed flat or hung on a hook. This will help to avoid any kinks forming in the hose or other damage due to it being impacted by other items in your garage or tool shed. Electric pressure washers include a trigger that allows the user to open the valve on the hose assembly and spray the water. Over time, the triggers for electric pressure washers can wear out and begin to leak which can cause the machine to operate improperly and potentially damage the pressure washer itself. The trigger should be regularly inspected to make sure that it does not have any cracks or breaks. There are usually some plastic parts in the triggers for electric pressure washers, so it is important that the trigger be stored carefully. The trigger can be stored while connected to the hose; however, it should be stored in a way that will protect it from being damaged by other objects. Electric pressure washers use an unloader to re-circulate water while the hose wand is not in use. Basically, this means that the water has been taken in from the water hose, but if the trigger has not been opened, the water needs somewhere to go. The unloader will circulate the pressurized water through a small on-board hose until the trigger is opened again and the water sprays out. The unloader should be checked to ensure it is working properly. Many power tools, including electric pressure washers have moving parts that need to be maintained and cared for such as the water pump. The water pump can actually be impacted by improper use of the washer itself. For example, leaving the pump running for long periods of time without opening the valve to spray the water can cause damage to the pump. If you will be more than just a minute or two without spraying any water, it can be a good idea to turn off the motor and the pump so that they are not damaged. If you have to step away from a job, it is usually best to turn off electric pressure washers and restart them later. Using electric pressure washers properly and storing them carefully can help to maintain the parts and components and allow the entire pressure washer to last much longer and continue to be useful.
