One of the biggest health threats that people face today is the inability to maintain a healthy weight. For most people it seems that they are slowly but steadily putting on weight. It may be just a little every month but at the end of the year it all adds up. It all boils down to your body's chemical make up? your fat-burning furnace? your ability to utilize the food you eat and turn it into energy rather than store it as body fat. The process responsible for this is your body's engine ?.your metabolism. So many of us believe that our metabolism is determined by factors beyond our control; we think that some people are just born thin and remain thin no matter what they eat. The rest of us have a life long struggle as we try to keep our weight at a healthy level. But once you understand how your metabolism actually works, you will realize? It doesn't have to be this way? At a basic level it is all about your muscle tissue. This is the power behind your metabolic engine. Starting around our mid 20's we begin to lose some of this precious tissue. The amount we lose is quite a lot, around 300-500 grams per year. This amount accelerates after the age of 60 when it doubles. We used to believe that it was the aging process that caused this but now we know different. It is because we do not do enough muscle building and maintaining activity for our body to hold on to its muscle tissue. Even if you are already an active person unless you are challenging your muscles with the right exercise you will not hold off this process. Recreational activity like walking, jogging and cycling and any other long, slow, steady state activity can never ever replace a proper exercise program than contains strength training exercise. Although these activities do burn calories (fuel) they really only do so while you are doing them. We now focus our efforts on the only type of exercise that will give us greater calorie burning permanently, every minute of the day even when you are resting or sleeping. This can only come with a proper program of strength training exercise. It should be set up by a fitness professional that will give you a structured program to give the very best results in the shortest amount of time, This program also needs to be performed properly using the right level of intensity (degree of difficulty) and with proper instruction in exercise technique otherwise it simply will not work. This program also needs to be supported with good nutrition in the way of 4-6 small meals every 2-3 hours that each includes around 20 grams of protein. These small meals will keep blood sugar levels balanced, keep food cravings to a minimum, give lots of energy and keep your metabolism cranking. Along with your exercise program you now have the tools to slowly reverse the weight gain situation. Just these two lifestyle changes that will not only over time make you slim again but give you greater strength and energy levels. Use this solution to unleash the power of your metabolism and you will change your life forever. When you unleash your inner metabolic energy, everything you have wanted, including a strong, lean, shapely, healthy body and the vitality to make it happen becomes yours.
