The obvious thing we do if we feel we have put on some weight is to consider going on a diet. For most people though, a diet of restrictive food intake is a period of suffering, deprivation and a moment to moment battle between willpower and the desire to lose that excess body fat. This is certainly not a long term success strategy for our life and this harmful dieting mindset need to be eradicated once and for all. A lot of us go wrong at the very start of each day and we skip breakfast thinking that this is a good weight loss strategy. We then guzzle down coffee, have a quick lunch, snack throughout the day to compensate for the poor start, and then consume more than half our daily calories in one meal ? dinner. This is a perfect meal plan if you are looking to slow your metabolism (your body's engine) to a crawl and pile on the body fat. Science has uncovered more effective methods now. The old three meals a day was an invention from a different time and in a very different world than we live in today. Food was less available, less processed and people had a lot of built in 'work' in each day. They could easily process the larger quantity of fuel (calories) in each meal with their active lifestyles. This method of eating served us well, but it is now time to fact the fact that the old 'three squares a day' is an outdated method of eating. This new way involves eating multiple small meals every 2-3 hours throughout the day. This serves the purpose of keeping our metabolic engine running hot and burning the fuel for energy rather than being overwhelmed with large meals that are simply stored as fat. These meals should contain 20-30 grams of high quality protein at each meal which each meal around 300-400 calories. Lots of raw and cooked vegetables can then be added. This way of eating will fire up your engine just from having to process this type of food. If your goal is to lose weight ? and you want to do it in the fastest possible time it is important that you include a proper exercise program that contains at least 60% strength training exercise. This is the only type of exercise that will speed up your engine for even greater calorie burning long after the exercise session has finished. Long slow, repetitive activity like walking, jogging or cycling is just as outdated as fat burning exercise as your three square meals a day eating. Don't be misled any longer and stop wasting your precious time on things can never ever work for you. Low intensity activity is great as part of an active lifestyle but don't ever replace a proper exercise program with it. If you are new to exercise, seek the help of a fitness professional to set up your program and teach you correct exercise technique. You should have a body composition test done to determine exactly how much body fat you have to start with. This then needs to be monitored so you can see your progress rather than just shooting a shot gun and hoping some pellets hit their target. Use a rifle and one shot aimed at your target for best results. Your exercise program also needs to contain at least one and preferably two interval training sessions each week. This involves short bursts of all out activity alternated with slower recovery activity. For example, 12 seconds of sprinting followed by 1 minute of walking repeated 8-12 times. This combination of your strength training, interval training and your small meals is the absolute best and most efficient way to stoke your metabolism for body fat loss. It will also keep your energy levels high, your body strong, toned and shapely and your mind alert which all helps you feel great. Once you adopt these methods and make the necessary changes bit-by-bit little-by-little you will get stronger in both mind and body and will continue to improve every step along the way. Your life will be changed for the better when you are freed from the shackles of dieting. Do you want to discover the secret to rejuvenating your body and improving the quality of your life?
