Effective & Easy Follow Ways To Get Rid of Sleep Apnea

Health,Self Improvement,Home Improvement
Without a doubt nothing spoils a quality night’s sleep rather than heavy snoring, and it is also regarded as the main cause of husbands needing to sleep on the couch. With regard to medical professionals, heavy snoring should not be neglected since it could be a indication of sleep apnea, a possible life-threatening condition.

Sleep Apnea Defined

Sleep apnea is the cessation of breathing while one is sleeping. Shallow breathing with pauses that continue for about 10 to 20 seconds each is perceived as sleep apnea. For this reason, lack of oxygen will happen to result in a jolting awakening. This induces insufficient sleep whereby one suffers from fatigue, sleepiness, slow reflexes and poor concentration during the day.

For more information on sleep apnea, you need to know how to differentiate its categories. You may find three kinds of sleep apnea: obstructive sleep apnea, central sleep apnea, and complex sleep apnea.

Different types of Sleep Apnea

Obstructive sleep apnea is the most common type of all. It takes place when the soft tissues behind the throat, including the tongue, relax while sleeping and block the airway. Once the airway is obstructed, it creates a loud vibrating sound which we all know as snoring. The next type of sleep apnea is central sleep apnea. It is the less common kind of sleep apnea since it involves the central nervous system. This happens when the brain does not send signals to specific muscles that control breathing. Also, snoring is certainly not evident for people experiencing central sleep apnea. The last kind of sleep apnea is complex sleep apnea wherein this is basically the combination of both obstructive and central sleep apnea.

It is very important to pay attention to the signs and symptoms of sleep apnea because it can happen to anybody. It does not choose any gender, race or age. It is advisable to know the following signs and symptoms as it might save a loved ones' life and even yours.

Signs and Symptoms of Sleep Apnea

The main indications of sleep apnea are loud snores with long pauses in breathing, choking, snorting, and gasping for air while sleeping. Complaints of folks experiencing sleep apnea consist of waking up with a dry mouth, coarse voice, sore throat, throbbing headache, disturbed sleep, low energy in the daytime, and lethargy. Prior complaining how loudly other individuals snore and judging them for being lazy, spend time to learn how they are doing especially in the way they sleep.

Possible Risk Factors of Sleep Apnea

Some individuals may neglect the fact that they might be candidates for sleep apnea, particularly if they aren't aware of the risk factors. Excess weight, family history, aging, and smoking are high risk factors for sleep apnea. Health conditions which include allergic reactions, nasal congestion, as well as other ailments which involve the airway may also cause sleep apnea. If you suffer from any of these symptoms, it is wise to consult a physician.

Sleep Right and Avoid Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea could be relieved by restoring one’s sleeping practices. Shifting one’s body position while sleeping can prevent sleep apnea from happening. Resting on one’s side is recommended for persons experiencing sleep apnea. It is because when a person sleeps on their back, gravity makes the relaxed tongue drop on the soft tissues of the throat. This leads to blockage and loud snores. Propping an extra pillow below your head elevates it from the body. This also helps prevent the tongue from dropping onto the airways. The perfect height for the head is four to six inches simply because anything above that can result in a stiff neck or a strained shoulder.

Medical Interventions for Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea is addressed in a number of ways. Doctors generally recommend sleep apnea mouthpieces. Sleep apnea mouthpieces are devices designed to alleviate excessive snoring and bruxism, best known as teeth grinding. Most sleep apnea mouthpieces are custom made to avoid choking and slipping.

Several consumers and physicians investigated the benefits and drawbacks of using sleep apnea mouthpieces. Mainly because these devices are geared towards providing relief and comfort, it is important to spend time analyzing the reviews of several products in the market.

One positive aspect of using sleep apnea mouthpieces or mouths guard for snoring is that it gives instant relief from sleep apnea and excessive snoring. Additionally, it is non-invasive when compared with surgical treatment and other permanent dental devices. Furthermore, it is only worn during sleeping unlike braces and dental splints which must be worn most of the day for the whole world to see.

There will be some drawbacks, though. Since it is portable, one can easily lose their sleep apnea mouthpiece. Likewise, some people feel unpleasant having something in their mouths while they are sleeping. Others may take a very long time adjusting and this may cause irritation and insufficient sleep for some. Sleep apnea mouthpieces should also be wiped clean and brushed just like teeth. More or less, inadequately cleansed mouth guards can be very unhygienic.

CPAP

CPAP is an phrase that represents Continuous Positive Airflow Pressure. It is the most preferred remedy for moderate to severe sleep apnea. CPAP is a device where a mask is employed to provide a continuous supply of air while sleeping. You'll find it like having an oxygen therapy from the hospital minus the giant green tank. Some CPAP devices are actually engineered in a compact way, therefore making them more lightweight for travel.

One advantage of getting a CPAP device is that it supplies constant airflow to the pathways throughout sleep. This ensures that the body, particularly the brain, is being supplied enough oxygen. Users who used the CPAP device felt improvements within their bodies. Such claims would mean better staying power in daytime, increase in focus and concentration, and best of all a peaceful sleep. The disadvantages, on the other hand, are the same as those of sleep apnea mouthpieces. Since the CPAP is applied externally, the patient applying this may well find it annoying and uneasy initially. For some, it restrains them from shifting their position while sleeping because the device might be displaced.

Since manufacturers of the CPAP saw the downside with its bulky, face-hugging mask, they decided to produce the Provent. Provent uses nasal cannulas where it is installed over the nose. This is smaller and less intrusive than the conventional CPAP. Aside from the size difference between the cannula and the mask, Provent is a more costly as compared to the traditional CPAP.

Well-known Anti-snoring Mouthpieces Brands

There are popular brands of anti-snoring devices available in the market and approved by the FDA. The three most widely used brands are Snore-Ex, PureSleep and ZQuiet.

Snore-Ex is a device placed into the mouth which helps get rid of snoring. The advantage of Snore-Ex is that it is way cheaper than a tailored mold made by a dentist. The mold is designed to accommodate any mouth by simply adhering to the step-by-step guidelines included in the package. At the same time, it can be used alongside the CPAP which enhances the advantages given by the product. Snore-Ex will also help reduce bruxism or unconscious teeth grinding. With such benefits, Snore-Ex is considered a good deal since it's a 2-in-1 product that specializes in both snoring and bruxism.

PureSleep is another FDA approved product. It is a self-molded retainer that is meant to mitigate snoring by positioning the lower jaw a bit forward from its normal position during sleep. Through this, it will help open the airways and lessens the vibrations we all termed as snoring. PureSleep has an upper and lower piece that can be attached together. The advantage about PureSleep is that the user has the chance to custom-fit the mouthpiece depending on his bite. After the pieces are joined, the device is boiled to soften making it mold perfectly on the teeth in less than a minute. PureSleep features its patented adjustable design, FDA-approved materials, and dental recommendation.

ZQuiet is an anti-snoring device designed by a Doctor of Dental Surgery named Dr. Avery Lieberman. His 20 years of experience as a Dental Sleep Specialist has emerged him one of the foremost experts in this field. He utilized soft elastomer that is BPA and latex free in making ZQuiet. Having said that, he was able to conform with the FDA's strict rules concerning consumer safety. ZQuiet functions by fitting it inside the mouth. It holds the jaw forward wherein it keeps the breathing passages open in the throat. The designers of ZQuiet are proud of their “Living Hinge Technology,” a mechanism seen in the device that enables the jaws to move naturally while asleep. Since a soft type of rubber is used for this product, people are unlikely to wake up with unpleasant jaws.

Sleep apnea and excessive snoring have no right to take away anyone’s soothing night. Thanks to our sleep experts and dentists, we will be able to get rid of restless nights by using their helpful inventions that target sleep apnea. The Dalai Lama once said, “Sleep is the best meditation.” It is because sleep and rest restore a tired body and mind that have been working throughout the day.
