Your hearing aid needs to be cleaned. You know that right? Just as your ear can get clogged with substances such as hair, dust, oil and earwax, so can your auditory device. The cleaning and maintenance of the device is important but so is getting to know and understand the features that the equipment is composed of. To take care of your auditory needs, you have purchased a hearing aid. It has a variety of features that you must become accustomed to. The audiologist will teach you how the device works but there are plenty of features you may wish to play around with once you get the product home. You will be wearing your apparatus in different settings and will have occasion to adjust the volume to whatever is comfortable where you are. The volume wheel is what you will use to adjust or fine-tune the device to your level of comfort. If you look closely at the hearing aid, you should find that it has a button or a switch on it that activates several special settings. Take the time to learn about all that the button or switch can do. On it there will be a telephone switch or coil that will make the device offer a level of clarity and volume. Sometimes you may notice that the auditory apparatus whistles. However with the phone coil or switch, you will be able to hear in a clearer manner without feeling any discomfort while wearing the equipment. There are directional microphones on the product that help you to focus in on sounds that come from the front of wherever you are standing or sitting. The microphones also minimize the sounds that you will hear from behind you. What this does is it allows you to point your hearing abilities in the direction of whatever it is you are most interested in hearing. If you start to hear a succession of beeps, this means that the battery is getting low and it is time to change it. The hearing aid should have a low battery indicator on it. It is always a good idea to keep a supply of batteries on hand so you will be prepared with a new one when one gets low. The batteries on flashlights do not operate the same as the batteries in auditory aids. When the battery in a flashlight is getting weaker, the light that emits from it gets dimmer until it no longer works anymore. On the other hand, when the battery in an auditory device is getting weaker, the product stops working all together. Some of the newer digital devices have FM tuning of the FM receiver built right into the equipment. This makes it possible for the wearer to tune into the specific transmission wavelength. You will be able to hear sounds and voices from a distance that make it seem as though the person speaking with you were right in front of you.
