What is hemophilia? Well, hemophilia is one of the bleeding disorders, mostly found in males, due to deficiency of blood clotting factors in blood. This disease impairs the body's ability to control the blood clotting. When a person is hurt or is injured a temporary scab is formed on the injured blood vessel in order to stop excess bleeding. You must have heard about people bleeding non-stop for longer time if they are injured, it is because of the disease, hemophilia. These kinds of disorders are mostly found in males rather in females. Females are only the carriers of this disease, it can either be an inherited defective gene or freshly mutated. You can easily make out if a person is suffering with bleeding disorders or hemophilia. Commonly found symptoms in such patients are internal or external bleeding episodes, and in case the patient is facing severe hemophilia, the bleeding is more frequent than normal. Sometimes if it is not that severe then a person does not even get to know that he is suffering from any such disorders. They realize it after any surgery or any trauma. In patients with severe hemophilia, their injuries do not get healed quickly. Another common symptom found in them is joint bleeding, where bleeding enters the joint spaces. Also, you may notice swelling and bruises due to bleeding in joints. It is observed that heavy bleeding occurs if a patient of hemophilia goes through any medical or dental procedure. Such patients are said to have a short life span. It is even seen that if the patient is not treated in time he may even loose his life. Although, there is no permanent cure for hemophilia or any such disorders, they have remedies to heal on time. All one can do is, take immediate medication the moment it starts bleeding, or even in case if the patient is injured. These patients are either on long term medications such as on antibiotics or the other way is replacement therapy. The other remedy for hemophilia is blood replacement therapy. In blood replacement therapy the plasmas of the blood cells are replaced with the healthy ones. The patient needs to take all precautionary steps in order to avoid any such extreme case. This disorder may even happen due to the deficiency of vitamin K. It can be diagnosed at an early stage of a child. Diagnosis such as blood test, checking of rheumatoid arthritis should be frequently done, so as to know the stage of hemophilia or even its existence.
