As show of support for the fourth Globe Run for Home (R4H), thousands of runners had flocked to the Cebu International Convention Center, and though its number is far lesser compared to other R4H events, such as those within Metro Manila, they boast that majority of their runners are true runners, those that who live and breathe for running. Celebrating the Fourth Globe Run for Home According to latest Wellness Philippines news, more than 5,000 runners have joined the event. And though it might seem like a low number compared to Manila’s huge turnouts that go up to five digits, these runners are those that does running as a passion. “These are real runners. No one is running here na hatak lang; no one is running here at gunpoint. More than 1,000 runners will race for the 21K category. That is big. Even for a city like Manila, race events hardly get a thousand runners for the 21K category,” said Neville Manaois, race director of Eventking Corp., event organizer for this year’s Globe R4H. Leading the pack of Cebuano running luminaries were Dr. Potenciano “Yong” Larrazabal III and his wife Donna, elite triathlete couple Noy and Amale Jopson, ABS-CBN news anchor and champion ultra-runner Haydee Acuna, “Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition” second-placer Alan Choachuy, breast cancer survivors headed by Mary Anne Solomon, and about 150 runners from the financial institution JP Morgan. The route took them from the CICC to Cebu South Coastal Road toward the Cebu City-Talisay City boundary, to Plaza Independencia, Sergio Osmeña Boulevard and Ouano Avenue. “The run was very good, with great weather. Route was very safe and flat. Although we competed a week earlier for another half-marathon in Cebu, Donna still managed a Philippine PR of 1:55 and placed 10th in the overall female. I had a modest time of 1:45 and placed 22nd overall male category,” said Larrazabal. This is their first Globe R4H race. According to Philippines Lifestyle news, Amale Jopson finished sixth in the 10k overall female, while husband Noy finished 8th overall male category. Both finished at the same time (47:39). He said it is “a privilege to live in Cebu,” turning down several chances to move to Manila. A lover of the great outdoors, she said she and her husband run in the trails of Cebu where the air is cleaner and fresher.
