November is the time to think about lung cancers including mesothelioma (cancer caused by the exposure of asbestos). November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month. Mesothelioma is one of the rarest forms of lung cancers. There are between 2000 and 3000 cases of mesothelioma each year. Approxiamently 2/3 of mesothelioma cases are mesothelioma of the lungs. Many scientists believe that mesothelioma is caused by the inhalation (and, to a lesser extent, digestion) of asbestos fibers. Many people who have or currently work in ship yards, manufacturing plants and chemical factories have been diagnosed the most over the years. Unfortunately, treatment of mesothelioma doesn’t occur until advanced stages of the disease or showing. Symptoms of mesothelioma usually occur between 20 to 50 years after the asbestos exposure, and often it is to late to prescribe sufficient treatment. If you or someone you know has EVER been exposed to asbestos, you should seek the advise of consulation of a medical professional. Recognizing early symptoms of Mesothelioma could save a life. Symptoms of Mesothelioma of the lungs include: Dry or raspy cough Night sweats Fever Unexplained weight loss (10% or more) Difficulty in swallowing Fatigue Persistent pain in the chest Painful breathing Shortness of breath (even during rest) Lumps under the skin on the chest Symptoms of Mesothelioma of the abdomen area include: Night sweats Fever Weight loss that can’t be explained Unexplained diarrhea or constipation Nausea and/or vomiting Lumps under the skin on the abdomen Swelling and/or pain in the abdomen Anemia Fatigue Symptoms of Mesothelioma of the heart include: Heart palpitations Chest pain Difficulty breathing (event at rest) Fever Night sweats Fatigue If you or someone that you know works with or has worked with asbestos and has experienced or are currently experience any of these symptoms, it is advised that you seek a medical consultation as soon as possible and share this list of symptoms.
