Roberta McNabb is a Canadian resident who has made significant efforts over the years to promote autism awareness in the society. Research has shown that autism is the fastest growing developmental disability among children with an annual growth rate of 10-17%. While most families with autistic children might see no hope, they can make life easier for their children with ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis). ABA is one of the most effective ways to teach children with autism how to alter their behavior and live a life that is normal. Based on behavioral theories, ABA aims to improve the socially significant behavior of autistic children. Roberta McNabb and husband Ed McNabb have fought a legal battle for their son Jordan McNabb so that he could get medically needed therapy. They won the case in the court of law and will get help from government for the cost of therapy that ranges from $50,000 to $60,000 a year. A dedicated mother, Roberta McNabb loves her son very much and she has stood by him through all the difficult phases of life. Roberta McNabb has also visited Jake’s House, a charity that supports children and families that deal with autism. The charity organization is located in Toronto, Ontario and they offer information, support and resources for families where children are diagnosed with autism. The charity was founded in 2002 by David and Irene Bodanis. Through the charity, the founders want to make every person feel like a one big family so that they can all help each other. At Jake’s House, Roberta McNabb felt welcomed in the warm and friendly atmosphere and she shared her life’s story on how it is to live with an autistic child. David Bodanis said that the cure for autism lies in support and help from family and friends as everyone can help each other in making life comfortable for an autistic child.
