Fresh fruit is important to all of us in getting our five a day and we are certainly all aware of how good for us fruit and vegetables are. However (and let’s be honest with ourselves for a moment) how many of us realistically get our five a day? And do we actually know the benefits of having certain fruits in the workplace and what advantages it can give us? Recent research conducted by the team at Fruitful Office found that having fruit in the workplace can have some great advantages for both employees and the company as a whole. It can be hard to always choose the healthy option - office vending machines, birthday cakes and even a high street full of coffee shops, cafes and restaurants can be a great temptation - but research has shown that by simply eating some fresh fruit at work, productivity and concentration can increase by over 10% - incredible. Whilst there are so many health advantages just for the staff here, this is also extremely advantageous to the company. If a team runs on 10% or better productivity and concentration, more (and better) work can be completed. More work being completed can mean more money coming into the company - which can lead to both the company and employees reaping the rewards for their hard work. The health boosts the employees get and the financial boost the company's get is impossible to deny. Employees surveyed also seemed to be happier and have a greater sense of workplace morale which is fantastic. The majority of those surveyed believed the fruit provided had helped to improve the quality of their working life and it had also had a ripple effect into their personal life too. Almost as many found that the provision of fruit had helped them in the long term - whether by adding more fruit into their diet or cutting out the unhealthier snacks from their diet in favour of fruit. Almost 80% found that they felt more valued as an employee as a result of such provisions. The team at Fruitful Office isn’t the only ones to have realised how beneficial certain fruits can be to increase productivity, concentration and morale. Blueberries and bananas are great fruits to have available for staff in the workplace. Bananas are full of potassium which is great for keeping us focused whilst blueberries can help to ward off stress and mental degeneration. They can even help to protect our brains from ‘free radicals’ meaning our brains can perform more effectively as we creep into old age. These aren’t the only fruits by any means that can help provide a greater working experience and it's important to note that these fruits can help lead to a happier and greater working experience for both the workforce and the company in general. It is clear to see just how advantageous the provision of fresh fruit can be. Improved employee’s health, better business finances, greater workforce morale all by the simple cost effective idea of providing some fresh fruit for the staff to eat.
