Controlling your anxiety with meditation

At some time of our life, all of us experience stress and anxiety. However, the level of anxiety differs from person to person and in fact, how a person deals with it also varies. A lot of books are available in the market which tell you about the ways how you can deal with it. Among all the methods available, it can be said that one of the best ways to deal with anxiety is meditation.

Meditation is nothing but just a way to control your mind. It is a way by which you can guide your brain to be conscious of what all is happening around and also not to react to each and every thing. It is quite beneficial to cure emotional and as well as physical problems. For problems, like stress, anxiety, depression, heart diseases, cancer etc., it is actually a recommended treatment. It is a great reliever for problems related to anxiety, as it helps you calm your mind and unwind your body. You can actually see the difference in your personality and outlook in a few days only. One thing that people need to understand is that meditation is not just sitting at a place and closing your eyes; it is much more than that. While doing it, you need to consider three main elements and these are focus, site and pose.

For anxiety control through mediation, focus is certainly the most important element. This actually keeps your mind liberated from any type of interruption. While doing meditation, you have to learn how to keep wayward thoughts away and how to keep your focus on breathing only. Focusing becomes easy if you concentrate on your own breathing or repeat a mantra or you can envisage a particular thing or object. Generally, there are no strict rules for site or pose, but for the beginners, it is highly recommended to choose a peaceful and serene place for doing meditation, so that they can concentrate more. A calm environment also helps in removing the gratuitous distractions. Eventually when you master this skill you can actually practice it anywhere any time, without being disturbed by what is happening around.

There are a number of ways by which you can practice meditation. As our focus is on anxiety control, so we will be discussing two ways by which we can control anxiety. First and foremost is the prayer. Doing prayer can actually take you to intermediate level of becoming a skilled mediator. In most of the religions we have written prayers and doing these prayers during meditation can actually help you focus on concord, elegance, gratefulness and contemplation. Make sure that while doing prayer you actually keep your focus on words and not on other things.

Another way to decrease anxiety is to do meditation in natural surroundings. You can spend time to appreciate the beauty of nature. Take a deep breath and try to relax your muscles. If you feel that you are wondering about other things which are trying to come back to your focus, then this can be avoided by telling yourself loudly, “that I will attend to all these later, now my focus is this.”

Meditation is quite easy but it definitely requires a lot of training. When you do it for the very first time, then it can be quite difficult for you, so try not to be very hard on yourself.
