Soon after the movie 300 was released, the term “300 workout” started floating around the internet and soon became popular. What is the 300 workout? The term 300 workout came out because the actors of the 300 movie had to undergo rigorous training in order to get their bodies into shape for the roles that they play in the movie. A Spartan warrior had to have a lean and mean looking physique and needed to look as if he was ready to do battle, not with guns and bullets, but with swords and spears. These warriors were expected to move quickly and have a muscular physique at the same time. In order to achieve this physique, the actors had to undergo a training regimen that was rather difficult. At the end of the training program, the actors had to take a test called the 300 test. The 300 test consisted of 300 continuous repetitions of 7 different workouts. The repetitions for each workout varied but it added to a total of 300 reps to complete the test. Now, the test was in fact very difficult and not recommended for beginners. The actors themselves had to be physically fit before joining the training program. They trained for as much as 3 months before they could take the test and that training was strictly supervised, including the amount of food that they ate. Not all of the actors that participated in the program were able to take and pass the test. Only about half of the actors were able to do so. The 300 workout is all about pushing the body to its boundaries and then pushing further to gain muscle fast. The actors not only had to undergo 2 hours of rigorous training 5 days a week, but also had to undergo fighting courses for another 2 hours. This way, they were able to develop bodies fit for a Spartan warrior. Beginners are not recommended to take a program like the 300 workout. The body needs time to develop to get into a condition that would enable it to participate in such a training program. In order to gain muscle fast, the program is designed to breakdown the muscle fibers so much that a beginner would not be able to recover from the amount of punishment. If you are a beginner, or even someone who is physically active, it would be best to train a bit harder in order to prepare yourself for something like the 300 test. Remember that not all of the actors who trained to take the test actually did take the test yet they played in the movie. Pushing your body to its limits takes a lot of determination and skill to prevent injuries. Pushing even further will be an act of suicide if your body is not accustomed to the amount of training that is required to push it over the limits. So, if you’re looking to have the physique of a Spartan warrior, take it slow and work out on a regular basis.
