Arkansas Football Coach Loses Money in Real Estate Investments, Files for Bankruptcy |

University of Arkansas football coach John L. Smith filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy earlier this month. Smith has assets worth between $1 million and $10 million and debts totaling between $10 million and $50 million, according to court documents. The Washington Post reports that the filing is preliminary and more details will be added to the filing later. Smith told the media this summer that he and his business partners faced a difficult time maintaining investments after the real estate market began to slow down several years ago. Before Arkansas hired him as a coach this spring, Smith told the university’s athletic director that he was struggling financially . “Certainly, initially, I had concerns, but as he explained the situation to me, it clearly became a bad investment,” Arkansas AD Jeff Long told Yahoo!
