When you have cancer, hair loss is not the biggest of problems that you will have, but in the long run it is one of the biggest things that depresses women during their treatment to get better. Many women who have gone through the tough ordeal of dealing with cancer feel pain and anguish when one day they comb their hair and a bunch comes out, leaving a patchy scalp. For most, their hair is their crowning glory and to watch it all fall out over time is extremely difficult. Like most women, a cancer survivor, Sarah(a close friend) too was given the option of shaving her head when her chemotherapy started and she choose that because she wasn’t sure if she would be able to handle seeing her hair just fall out, “I felt terrified thinking about what I would look like with thin, wispy hair and more than that I was worried about what other would say. Most days I didn’t go out because I was too scared and worried.” When a friend suggested she look into lace wigs as an option, she was intrigued and though initially she thought that wigs look fake and would make her seem out of place, her first experience changed her mind completely! When trying on her first lace wig, Sarah was excited and nervous all at once, not knowing how it would suit her or if it would look good on her or not. I had chosen the same hairstyle that I had and if I didn’t tell people that this wasn’t my natural hair, they would have never known. It did not look fake or out of place. It was just perfect. It definitely helped me gain some confidence back and gave me more encouragement. My treatment was working well, I had started looking the same as before… my life was back on track!” Many women like Sarah are now taking the step towards wearing wigs that will help them retain their looks and make the difficult journey of beating cancer a little less painful.
