When you're a new parent there are a lot of things you're concerned about. You're worried about being a good parent to your children, you're worried about being a good partner to your spouse, and you're worried about taking care of yourself. There are a lot of things parents worry about after they have a new baby, but there's one universal worry that everybody with a family can relate to: money worries. Raising kids is expensive, and newborns require a lot of care and a lot of money to finance it. Even though things are expensive, there are things you can do to help save money. Go for generics Some people claim that big name items are always superior to their generic forms, but that isn't true for a lot of things. When it comes to medication, diapers, and other baby supplies, there's very little difference between the store brand and the more well-known brand. There's no reason to pay more money for a name when you're getting the same thing that's in the generic package. Stick to generic brands and you'll be surprised when you see how much money you've been able to save. Use coupons If you're used to throwing out your coupons, you may feel like you still don't need them when you have your baby. A coupon for $0.50 off baby food may not seem like a big saving, but when you pair that with other money saving coupons you can save a significant amount of money. diaper coupons, baby food coupons, and coupons for other costly baby items will be your best friend during this time. Clip and save as many coupons as you can. Some new parents find that they like to keep their stack of coupons in their car so that they know they'll have them when they go out shopping. Team up with other parents If you really want to save money when you have a baby, other parents will be your best money saving tool. Other parents will have the supplies you need to take care of your baby, and money-saving knowledge that they've picked up throughout the years. Do you have a friend who had a baby a year or so ago? Ask them if you can borrow some of their baby supplies and maternity clothing. Are there other parents in the neighborhood with children around the same age as your children? Team up and start a baby-sitting co-op for the block.
