Shortly after his fifth birthday, our son developed “puppy love.” He begged for a puppy in any number of situations – seeing one on TV, at the park, or in a mall pet store. We thought about purchasing a puppy for Christmas, but reconsidered because we did not want this to be an impulse decision. Instead, we spent several months researching various breeds of dogs, in order to find the best match for our family's lifestyle. We decided that we wanted a larger breed of dog that was intelligent, energetic, and obviously good with children. While many breeds fit our requirements, for some reason we were drawn over and over again to Standard Poodles and Doodles. We began searching for a reputable breeder of Standard Poodles and Doodles. For ethical and moral reasons, we wanted a puppy that was raised in a family environment. We also wanted a breeder who was willing to provide help and support as we introduced our new puppy to our home and family. This included assistance in developing a bond between our son and the new family member, allowing him to enjoy the new addition while also learning to be patient and gentle. We found the website http://tlcbythelake.com. “TLC by the Lake” is a family-oriented breeder of Standard Poodles and Doodles, and they obviously understand and practice the art and science of breeding and placing dogs with new homes. One thing that we loved was the fact that the puppies are all exposed to a variety of people, including small children, from the time they are born. We loved this first of all because it meant that our puppy was cared for and loved in a family environment. We also liked the fact that our puppy would be used to interacting with children. Both Standard Poodles and Doodles have a great reputation for being excellent with children; however, that extra assurance from http://tlcbythelake.com that our puppy was well treated and child-friendly was a major factor in our purchasing decision. Sadly, while the health and well-being (both physical and emotional) of the puppy is given great priority, the needs of the parents of these puppies are often forgotten. This is not the case at “TLC by the Lake.” They have a “guardian dogs” program that places dams and sires in homes with loving families. Here, they live while they produce only a couple of litters, and they then are released to be adopted by their “guardian” family or to a new family. In addition to the guardian program, there are many adult dogs available for adoption at http://tlcbythelake.com, and all have been raised in a family environment. Older dogs can be wonderful pets for individuals who do not want the special care that puppies require but who desire loyal companions to love. The day we brought Skipper home was a happy occasion, and how easily our son and the new family member bonded! They've been inseparable ever since. Even with a few minor “bumps” in the road (potty training and one chewed shoe), all has gone amazingly well. Luckily, http://tlcbythelake.com has a wealth of information about training techniques, and we have used it often. We look forward to loving Skipper for many years! Standard Poodles and Doodles
