Calico cats are mostly female. Most cats cannot tolerate cow milk. Felines communicate by body language. They sleep an average of 16-18 hours per day. They can fall 5 stories with a survival rate of 90%. Felines have at least 100 vocal sounds. Female cats carry their kittens for approximately 58-65 day's, before giving birth. A group of adults cat is called a clowder or clutter. A group of kittens is called a "kindle". There are 5 toes on each front paw, but, only 4 toes on each back paw. A full grown cat has 30 adult teeth. A cat can ran up to 30 miles per hour at full speed. Your cats sense of smell is approximately 14 times greater than a person. A feline can jump 7 times its height. Male cats are called a tom and female's are called queens. Their taste buds cannot taste anything sweet. I found these facts amazing. I didn't realize all the wonders of this special pet. Some pets can be boring at times, but, a kitty is surely always entertaining. Watch them as they play, watch their body language as they slink their backs or arch them up. Here are a few more facts. Did you know, if you are afraid of cats don't look away from them, look straight at them. People who like cats usually will talk to them and try to get their attention. To them, this is a threat. People who don't like cats will try to ignore them. To a cat this is an invitation to jump on their lap. You would think the opposite wouldn't you? I know I did. When a cat is on his or her back and rolling side to side this is a greeting or a request to play. This is, "it is okay to come closer to me", position. Take advantage of this, you never know when his/her mood will change, to get away from me. Did you know that the belly up position is actually a defensive posture? In this position your pet is able to use all of his/her claws and teeth. It is not a submissive posture like we see with dogs.
