It is a challenge for teachers dealing with children with attention deficit hyperactive disorder. They certainly must possess patience, determination, and knowledge on how to deal with them. Here are several recommended interventions that might help in dealing with children with ADHD. Since they have short attention span, try to catch their attention at all times. Pause for a while, and then get the student's attention before asking them questions or giving directions. As you speak to them, do the eye contact. Let them repeat the directions or instructions you just gave. Make certain also that the students are actively involved in your lessons. This will make them attentive and active in learning at the same time. In order for them to loose track in the length of their attention time, you randomly choose those students you ask. You can give a signal to those students that are going to recite. Also give easy questions to those that their attention starts to wander. Whenever the student is starting to become restless as you are teaching, go over him or her to get their attention. You can tap their shoulder as you are walking around the classroom teaching. You can also point your finger at the student's book that is presently being discussed. Also, you can call out or use the student's name in the lesson or as an example on what you're discussing. Since students with ADHD have short attention span and they have difficulty in doing tasks, give them simple and short assignments and lessons. They can somehow give their focus on these uncomplicated responsibilities and learn as well. You can also interchange their physical and intellectual actions. This way, they can learn at school without their disorder hindering them. Know you're student's likes and wants. You incorporate this information into your lessons and school activities. You can boost up the innovation of your teaching and avoiding it to become boring by using creative and fun materials such as flash cards, movies, or small group activity. For you not to have a hard time letting them understand your questions and directions, make sure that you talk to you students using a soft tone voice.
