When you are a fleet owner, GPS trackers provide you with a lot of benefits and advantages. It helps you track your employees and your trucks. It allows you to manage your fleet better and rewarding you with a lot of perks such as lowering your labor, fuel and maintenance cost, and improve safety. But on the flipside of it comes the disadvantages and the problems it may cause. Below are the top 5 objections to GPS tracking systems. - My Employees Will Think I Don’t Trust Them - Let’s be honest, if you trusted your employees explicitly, you wouldn’t have even started reading this article! Every business out there has some sort of supervisor. This person’s job is to make certain employees do the work they are supposed to do. So, inherently, businesses do not fully trust employees. Every business has checks and balances (like our government sort of has…). All of this is for very good reasons. Humans, by nature, on the whole, do the minimum work required to obtain what they want or need. So, be honest with yourself. You don’t trust your employees and you should not trust them.
- I Don’t Have All Day to Watch My Fleet - This one is easy. GPS trackers send data to servers and the vehicle tracking data is then stored on the servers for later use by customers. GPS tracking information is usually available for a limited time on the servers for customers to review at a later time. So, you can always go back and lookup data when required.
- GPS Tracking is Too Expensive - This used to be the case. However, the price of GPS tracking has greatly been reduced. Sites like Rhino Fleet Tracking offer GPS trackers and service for as little as $16.95 per month. Asset tracking is actually even less.
- I Will Lose Good Employees - Good employees do not leave over fair GPS tracking programs. Good employees understand that supervision is required by companies. However, we often see irresponsible employees and “slackers” leave companies once GPS tracking is introduced.
- I Don’t Want to be Viewed as a Bad Guy - In business, as owners or managers, we sometimes have to be the “bad guy”. It’s not too different from parenting. Parents have to be the “bad guy” frequently. They have to put restrictions on their children in order to achieve the best and to keep them safe. Consider a factory without rules. The accident rates would be too high to survive. Be the bad guy as you must. It’s good for your company.
