This is a development I have been eagerly awaiting for some time, because it will be a major game-changer at a very beleaguered crew Redbox. See, it takes one of their main constraints and simply destroy it-its called the Flix Stix, and it will change as rent movies from major newsagents.
The concept is quite simple and one that Redbox is taken some time to offer, in principle, simply go to Redbox kiosk is located outside of any of the dozen or so, plug the USB flash drive and download the movie selection from the machine. Now, from the movie on a flash drive, you can take it home and watch it. When the rental term expires, the film is removed automatically, so you do not need to return to the kiosk
See, this is exactly what is needed for Redbox some time;. Their biggest weakness was that the kiosks can only hold so many DVDs, which means that their choice will always be inherently limited in comparison with, say, a DVD, postal services such as Netflix, which can ship from the warehouse, and even relatively large video store which can hold dozens of Redbox kiosks and their equivalent load DVD. Now, following this path, Redbox may exchange their cargoes DVD from hard drives, and not, and having the orders of magnitude more movies than before.
Word is that the first Flix Stix at the terminal will be operational within the next 90 days or so, although there is much still to be discussed: whether there is any content or support the studio? What safeguards are in these films(the word, which is undoubtedly the subject of discussion before the show to support the studio)? What video content, such as? And how long it takes to transfer files, right? Of course, if were on the USB 3.0 is much different(the word from 3.0 transfers will take only 14 seconds, while the 1.0 will be fully six minutes), but still most people probably do not drive or USB 3.0 slot for one in their homes .
Still, this is an idea whose time will surely come, so lets hope it works out and gives current favorite little more competition to keep them nice and Sharp .
