Suddenly the laptop is on the other side of the room, and you're cowering in the corner because the cursor is reminding you of that time on the playground when the school bully pulled your underwear over your head. Yeah, he said you sucked too. But like the cursor, he's totally wrong. You are a writer; you have no choice but to write! It is built into your DNA. It is what you were created to do. You have moments of creative writing brilliance. The muse is blessing you with the words, paragraph after paragraph filling page after page. A bead of sweat trickles down your brow in glorious triumph of unbridled creative flow. These days, you feel unstoppable. You laugh in the face of judgment. The ego, the cursor, and the bully are all silenced by your ability to create. But then there are the other days. The days of nothing, of the mocking cursor, and you cowering in the corner with your creative flow all blocked up. If you have ever felt like you were at the mercy of inspiration, I want to help reverse your thinking. I want to show you how to unleash the creativity that exists within. What? Yeah, within you, as in all the time - always there even when you aren't feeling it. I want to show you how defining and controlling your writing habits will open the door that allows creativity to flow through you, even when you think it's all blocked out. 1) Show up. I read a lot of books on writing because it is my passion. The one overriding message from the "pros" as key to unleashing your creativity is showing up. If you don't show up to write, nothing ever makes it to the page. And I don't mean just sitting down to write when the inspiration arrives. I mean, show up every day at the same time. Make it a habit. Before I do anything else in my day, I sit down and I write. I am doing it right now. I am still in my jammies, my hair is pretty wild, and I am armed with coffee. That's because I showed up today. Just like I did yesterday; just like I will tomorrow. Writing time is sacred time. Nothing gets to interrupt it. 2) Stop distracting yourself. As I am writing this article, I want to check my email. I keep touching my iPhone because I want to peek. I am waiting on some big news that I want to know, but all it is doing right now is distracting me from writing. When you sit down to write, just write. Focus only on that one thing. Turn off the Internet; remove the iPhone from the room (which I just did), whatever it takes. Shove your desk into a corner, sit down and write. Until you stop the distractions, you will never fully immerse yourself in the creating, and you never open the door that allows your creativity to flow. You keep stopping before it gets the chance to start. 3) Don't be perfect. I have a small confession to make. My name is Stephanie, and I am a recovering perfectionist. When I was younger, it made so much sense to me. If you are going to do something, do it perfectly so that no one can find fault in it. This is also referred to as trying to please everyone. And that my friends, is impossible. Give up the dream and start the habit of imperfect writing. This one shift will change your life. Suddenly, you will find yourself writing and creating instead of stopping and editing on the way down. You know what happens then? Yup, the creativity starts to flow because all the stopping and editing was keeping it blocked up. These three easy, simple habit changes have the power to unleash your creativity, and improve your writing. So make the decision, commit with all your heart, and go write. purchasing essays
