If you work in the care industry it makes sense to take a safeguarding adults course. Doing so will make you more employable and will help you to do a better job in your current role. This is the case if you come in contact with vulnerable adults during the course of your work. Lots of roles involve contact with vulnerable adults, some are very obvious others are less so. Obvious roles include health workers and care workers who come in contact with the elderly, the disabled and the mentally ill on a daily basis. Other less obvious roles include charity workers, who perhaps work with the homeless or councillors who work with people suffering from depression or substance addictions. Choosing a Safeguarding Adults Course There are dozens of courses available and which one is right for you is dependent on your role and the kind of vulnerable adults you come into contact with. There are general courses that will benefit all kinds of workers, for example a course giving an overview of UK legislation that is designed to ensure vulnerable people are kept safe is of benefit to everyone. Such a course gives you an overview of the law and helps to establish in your own mind how far your responsibilities go. If you work with the elderly you could chose to take more detailed courses that are applicable to you and the people you look after or work with. For example if you clean for the elderly taking a course to help you to recognise the early signs of dementia or how to recognise slips and falls hazards could mean that you can help one of your elderly clients to get early treatment for dementia and ensure you make the homes of your clients safer for them. The fact this is not your primary role, should not matter to you because you will be helping people at the same time as earning a living. If you take the initiative and take an appropriate safeguarding adults course you will find that your employer will view you as more of an asset. Safeguarding Adults EA has the right safeguarding adults coursefor you. Their courses are all designed to be completed online, so can be done at a time that is convenient for you.
