The next concern for you after designing and developing web pages is to get your web site hosted on the Internet. But with so many web hosting companies offering various types of web hosting packages - shared web hosting, dedicated web hosting, managed web hosting, which type of hosting should you choose? As a general rule, it is a good idea to go for shared web hosting if you are a small business owner and cost is your major concern. But before you make your hosting decision, let us first understand what is shared web hosting service and what are the advantages and disadvantages of shared web hosting. You need to pick a domain extension to attribute to your domain name. By this we mean.com,.co.uk,.org,.net etc. You should give careful consideration to the domain extension you choose to ensure that your full domain name best represents that of your business or project. For example if you are a UK business and are only selling to the UK, it would be most effective to choose a.co.uk domain extension - especially for achieving good UK search engine rankings. The process of creating a website and getting it online can be a tricky one, especially for the non-technical community. And this surely isn't helped by the common misconception that domain registration and web hosting is one and the same thing. It really as simple as that, but is something that causes a great deal of confusion and unnecessary stress to many people wanting to set up a website. So let's clear things up. Domain registration and web hosting are two separate processes, both of which need to be completed in order to create a website and make it live on the internet. And here's where the confusion comes in. Many companies will offer both domain registration and web hosting, whereas others will only offer either web hosting or domain registration. Therefore you can choose to register your domain and host your website with the same company or register your domain with one company and host your site with another. Put simply the process is as follows: a domain must be registered by a domain registration company and then that domain name must be hosted on the internet through a web hosting company. Its always a good idea to see what other people are saying about each provider. Website hosting review sites will list the most popular then the visitors of that website will submit their own opinions and experiences of that particular hosting provider. Some are good and some are bad so its nice to know whats been said. This will enable you to make a decision based on true facts instead of not knowing what to expect. hosting website hosting 1. The vendors of web hosting and domain name registration who advertise the most, push hardest, are easiest to find, are the most expensive. [Somebody's got to pay all those promo costs; it ends up being the customers who pay.] 2. Keep your domain name supplier and your web space supplier strictly separate. Never get both services from just one outfit. Keep them separate.[The reason is that web hosts occasionally have problems and their servers go down. With an independent, separate domain name registrar, you simply go into your account and set the pointers to another web host. Upload your website and you are back online in just a few minutes. If your web hosting provider and your domain name provider are the same company, when problems come up (as has happened to me on 3 separate occasions, 3 different webhosts in the last 4 years) the webhost will be tied up trying to fix the problem and will be unavailable for contact. It is not in their best interest to redirect your domain and lose you as a customer for web hosting. Your hands will be tied and you can be stuck with the problem. With a separate registration service, YOU are in charge and your interests rule. With domain registration and web hosting all at one supplier, that supplier will be in charge, and their interests will rule!]
