After lost for nearly 400 years, one of the famous masterpieces of Renaissance master Leonardo da Vinci was known to the public in Nov this year for the first time. Salvator Mundi was measuring 66 cm in height and 47 cm in length, mainly describing the religious image of Jesus for praying for the people in the whole world. His right hand made a blessing gesture; left hand was holding a likeness of crystalline object, quietly gazing at the world. It was reported the last time of finding the so important work of da Vinci was dating back to more than a century ago. Therefore, many experts regarded the discovery of Salvator Mundi as one of the most important discoveries in art field. The discovery of this painting was also full of legendary meanings. Before verifying this painting was made by da Vinci, this painting was considered as being drawing by his student Giovanni Antonio Botelafeiou and thus ignored by the world people. Salvator Mundi was created by da Vinci when he was commissioned by King Louis XII of France in 1506 and later collected by the king of England Charlie I. After that it was passed on to Charlie II and disappeared since then. Until 1958, people began to find it from the property of British collector Francis Cook Knight in the 19th century. At that time, this painting had been damaged seriously, being greased, glazed and even coated in a synthetic resin. Therefore, Sotheby's auction house only sold it at the price of 45 pounds.
